Gears of War 2: Summary and Review

Gears of War Two; we've had good times, bad times, and some right down bullshit times. Chainsaws were awesome in Gears of War One for simply one reason, they worked unlike the ones in Gears of War Two. The only way you can chainsaw someone in Gears 1 is if the person is faced away from you. You quickly rev up your shiny new Gears 2 chainsaw in excitement, going in for the kill, then the guy hits you, tossing you back about 10 feet where the attempted victim unloads an entire clip into your body...

Gears of Wars Two occurs several months after the lightmass bombing at Tingad. In GOW2 you still play as badass Sgt. Marcus Fenix, and Marcus's equally badass partner Dom is there
the whole way again. And yes, again, they demolish everything that comes into contact with them. After the lightmass bombing in Tingad, it was thought that the Locust horde would of been destroyed,
but on the contrary they actually became stronger. The Locust somehow got their dirty grubby hands on a creature that could sink entire cities whole. Instead of mostly defensive missions or trying to take ground back as in Gears 1, you go straight into the heart of the Locust hollow. After Jancinto is attacked by Locust, the Gears went on a all out offensive into the hollow, driven down in a behemoth of a vehicle. As your convoy is driving towards their destination you are ambushed by Reavers, just simply jump on the turret up the ramp and dispose of these nuisance's.

Once you get past all the locust you take a grindlift(a pod with a massive drill on the bottom) and you get shot at a high speed directly into the earth going through the layers into the hollow.
The reason they go down into the hollow is to find what was sinking cities. Come to find out, it was a mutated earthworm bigger than a skyscraper. Marcus and Dom try to get to the surface to
kill the earthworm. They meet up with Cole and Baird and fight their way to the rooftop to get to the chopper. After Delta Squad clears the roof the helicopter picks you guys up, the giant earthworm
comes crashing to the surface and eats Delta Squad and the helicopter. While in the worm the boys have to cut the arteries of six hearts. After cutting the arteries your squad has to cut out of the worm
fast before getting drowned by the worm's own blood.

After getting rid of the worm, Delta Squad gets sent to a top secret base believed to hold the location of the Locust stronghold. Delta arrived to the compound, Marcus ordered Cole and Baird to
watch the centaur(army vehicle) while they went inside. You will run into a ton of wretches, but thats not all, you also have to deal with a corrupted security system. After Marcus and Dom get past the security system they go and find the location of the locust stronghold. But thats not all they found, the doctor that used to do experiments there tried to make a super species a cross between a human and a locust to what came out as a mutated locust. After getting the location you press a button that will open the tubes that the super species (aka Sires) were being held. After opening the tubes the sires come out and try to kill you. If you have a flamethrower use that as it is very effective. After killing the sires you will get ambushed by Locust, the only advice I have for someone for this situation is get cover and lay down some fire, then throw a grenade. After getting through all the locust you return to the centaur to start your journey to the stronghold.

After leaving the base Delta Squad drove as fast as possible to the stronghold. The ride was hard for me. There's just so many reavers flying around breaking the ice on you while your in the middle of a lake. I usually hate doing, but my advice would be to put the pedal to the metal and only kill what you have to its, it's both faster and easier. Once you get to the stronghold, you find refuges just living down there. There were about twenty people left, but the locust captured the other survivors. Marcus had Baird and Cole take the people to the surface while Dom and Marcus took the stronghold. My only advice for this part of the game is always have ammo and just keep in cover and just wreck. If you try to rush its just a bad mess. When a boomer or butcher etc. comes at you SHOOT THEM IN THE FACE, I cant count how many times on Live people will just horde clips and clips into their body. After getting through the main part, Marcus and Dom witness an odd site, two groups of locust fighting each other kind of like civil war type. But one of the groups is glowing i believe from impulsion exposure. After seeing this you meet the Queen Locust. The Queen
is a female human. She explains to Marcus and Dom here plan to sink Jancinto. The Queen then escapes and makes her main body guard fight Marcus and Dom. I might say the "bosses" in this
game where so easy its a very large let down not worth getting into.

The Queen's bodyguard being defeated, you chase after her but eventually lose the trail. You hijack a reaver and fly in towards Jacinto with Skorge(Queen's bodyguard) right on their tail. This is the only boss that was semi difficult, but once you got the pattern down its easy enough to beat it with your eyes closed. After killing Skorge you finally get to Jacinto that is facing an all out assault from the Locust. Delta Squad shows up and you just start owning people. The trick is with Gears Of War keep your head down! So I won't lie I actually had to get my friend to come over and play co-op because for some reason your friendly AI in this part of the game is just so dumb it's unbearable. Marcus and Dom fight back some of the horde attacking Jacinto. This is the best part of the game, you kill some Locust, kill the brumak driver and you gets it; its brumak time. I had so much fun just slaughtering everyone with the brumak.

As soon as this area is clear of locust, out of the bombing zone a helicopter comes to pick you up. You don't notice until its too late that your brumak is standing in impulsion that caused
it to mutate. Okay, I love Gears of War, but the brumak went through an awesome transformation, and the toughest part of the boss battle is turning around when the chopper circles. I tried the hardest setting and still is just way to easy. As for the end of the game? I'm sorry, but it sucks so bad. I played that for like a day straight and the closing cutscene
is Jacinto flooded. Then oh wait the best part if you wait for the credits to be done no way! You hear Adam Fenix voice saying what did you do.

Despite my complaints, all in all Gears of War Two was a good game. To be clear, if I wasn't a Gearhead before I wouldn't have enjoyed this game. Its a hard judgment, but my thoughts are saying overall Gears of War 2 is a pretty fun game, but be sure to try it with Gamefly before you buy as it isn't for everyone. Rating 3.5 of 5!
