Nintendo DS Lite Sales Have Dropped? is That Correct? - Entertainment

The Nintendo DS Lite is still a cracking little piece of equipment despite being hidden behind the limelight of it's bigger brother, Wii. There are rumours that the DS Lite's sales have dropped though, just what is that all about?

Yes, it's true that the DS Lite's sales have dropped but that's not really the full story. And if you're a Nintendo fan you will definately find that hard to believe as it seems that Nintendo can do nothing by half measure at the moment.

But while it is true that the DS Lite sales have dropped, it is also true that the sales have dropped only because those sales have finally peaked - in other words, we'll all got one now thank you very much.

In one year up to March 31st, 2007, DS Lite sales were 23.6 million and the following year up to March 31st 2008, DS Lite sales were 30.3 million. A huge amount yes, though sales in Japan for the same period had dropped to 6.4 million - the previous year 9.1 million were sold which is a massive drop in sales figures.

Nintendo themselves, so I read, have themselves predicted that up to March 31st, 2009, sales of the DS Lite will fall to only 28 million, poor dabs! Yes, that's a lot of DS's but still a decrease for them of around 8% - quite significant for any business.

So, you can see that yes, DS Lite sales are falling but only because everyone who wanted one desperately, has now got one and those who simply fancied one for the fun are now buying them.

It's not I don't think, a sad story for Nintendo. Quite the opposite in fact, afterall, they made, they sold, they dominated. Now they move on with truck loads more money than they had before.
